| With effect from the final train on Saturday 3rd October 2009, the 'Oldham Loop' will close to rail traffic. It is planned to convert the route to light rail operation and incorporate it within Manchester's 'Metrolink' tram network. I travelled the length of the route earmarked for conversion for the first and final time by traditional heavy rail on 30 September 2009. The following stations, in route order from Manchester Victoria, will close to passengers for the duration of the conversion works: Dean Lane, Failsworth, Hollinwood, Oldham Werneth, Oldham Mumps, Derker, Shaw & Crompton, New Hey and Milnrow. |
